DEC 19 : Jammu and Kashmir has achieved a significant milestone in modernising public services with the inauguration of its first-ever Gen Z Post Office at AIIMS Vijaypur. With this launch, AIIMS Vijaypur becomes the first AIIMS in the country to host a Gen Z Post Office, marking a new chapter in India Post’s journey towards innovation and digital transformation.
The Gen Z Post Office is designed to cater specifically to the needs and expectations of young citizens, students, healthcare professionals and digitally savvy users. It offers tech-enabled, customer-friendly and paperless services, blending traditional postal functions with modern digital solutions.
Officials said the initiative reflects India Post’s evolving role as a future-ready service provider while maintaining its core mandate of inclusivity and accessibility. The facility aims to make postal services more relevant and engaging for the younger generation by integrating technology-driven solutions and simplified processes.
The Gen Z Post Office features a modern layout, digital payment options, faster service delivery mechanisms and user-friendly interfaces. Visitors can access a wide range of services including mail handling, parcel services, banking and insurance-related facilities, all supported by digital tools for enhanced efficiency.
By setting up the Gen Z Post Office within the AIIMS Vijaypur campus, the Department of Posts has ensured easy access for students, faculty, medical staff and patients, significantly reducing the need to travel outside the campus for essential postal services. The move is also expected to improve service outreach in one of the region’s premier healthcare and educational institutions.
Officials highlighted that the initiative aligns with the Government of India’s broader vision of Digital India, citizen-centric governance and service delivery reforms. The Gen Z Post Office concept is aimed at reimagining post offices as modern service hubs that resonate with contemporary lifestyles while preserving trust built over decades.
The launch is also seen as a boost to Jammu and Kashmir’s efforts towards technological adoption in public services. It underscores the Union Territory’s growing focus on innovation, digital governance and youth engagement.
With AIIMS Vijaypur setting a national precedent, similar Gen Z Post Offices are expected to be introduced at other strategic locations in the future, further strengthening India Post’s transformation into a modern, responsive and inclusive institution.
