DEC 19 : Kupwara, one of Jammu and Kashmir’s strategically significant border districts, was in focus as Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Transport, Youth Services & Sports, Information Technology, and Science & Technology, Satish Sharma, conducted a comprehensive review of the functioning of key government departments. The review aimed at strengthening governance delivery and ensuring that development initiatives translate into tangible benefits for people on the ground.
During the review meeting, the Minister laid special emphasis on ensuring an uninterrupted supply of essential commodities under the Public Distribution System (PDS). He directed officials of the FCS&CA department to maintain adequate stock positions, ensure timely distribution, and strengthen monitoring mechanisms to prevent any inconvenience to the public, particularly in remote and border areas of the district. Stressing transparency and accountability, he asked officers to address public grievances promptly and ensure fair delivery of services.
The Transport Department also came under detailed review, with Satish Sharma underscoring the importance of reliable and efficient transport services in a district like Kupwara, where terrain and weather often pose challenges. He called for improved connectivity, regular monitoring of public transport services, and the use of digital systems to enhance efficiency. The Minister highlighted that transport is a critical enabler of economic activity, education, healthcare access, and overall mobility, and must function in a citizen-centric manner.
Renewable energy initiatives formed another key focus area of the review. The Minister stressed the need to accelerate the adoption of clean and sustainable energy solutions, particularly solar power, to meet local energy requirements and reduce dependence on conventional sources. He encouraged officials to identify suitable locations and promote renewable energy projects that can provide long-term benefits, improve energy security, and support environmental sustainability in the district.
Recognising the transformative power of sports and youth engagement, Satish Sharma reviewed the status of youth services and sports infrastructure in Kupwara. He directed concerned departments to strengthen existing facilities, promote sports activities at the grassroots level, and encourage youth participation in organised sports. The Minister emphasised that investment in sports infrastructure not only nurtures talent but also channels youth energy towards positive and productive pursuits, contributing to social harmony and overall development.
The review also touched upon the role of information technology and science & technology in improving governance and service delivery. The Minister stressed the importance of leveraging digital platforms to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accessibility of government services, especially in far-flung areas.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to balanced and inclusive development, Satish Sharma urged officers to work with dedication and sensitivity, keeping public welfare at the centre of all initiatives. He called for better inter-departmental coordination and time-bound implementation of development योजनाएँ to ensure that the benefits of governance reach every section of society.
The review meeting concluded with clear directions for regular follow-up, ground-level monitoring, and proactive engagement with local communities. The Minister reaffirmed that strengthening essential services, transport connectivity, renewable energy adoption, and youth-centric initiatives remains a priority for the government as it works towards sustainable and people-oriented development in Kupwara and across Jammu and Kashmir.
