DEC 19 : A Union Territory–level security conference was chaired today on the lines of the annual DGP/IGP Conference, marking a significant step towards strengthening the region’s internal security framework. The high-level meeting was held under the guidance of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, with focused deliberations on the theme “Viksit Bharat: Security Dimensions.”

The conference brought together senior officers from the police, intelligence, civil administration, and security agencies to undertake a comprehensive review of the prevailing security scenario and future preparedness. Emphasis was laid on aligning security strategies with India’s broader vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047, where peace, stability, and rule of law are considered essential pillars of progress.

During the deliberations, participants held threadbare discussions on key aspects of internal security, including counter-terrorism preparedness, border and hinterland security, intelligence coordination, cyber threats, and public order management. The conference underscored that sustained economic growth and social development are possible only in an environment of lasting peace and robust security architecture.

A major focus of the meeting was strengthening coordination between various security and intelligence agencies to ensure swift and effective responses to emerging threats. Officers were encouraged to adopt proactive and technology-driven approaches, improve real-time information sharing, and enhance field-level coordination to maintain law and order across the Union Territory.

The theme “Viksit Bharat: Security Dimensions” highlighted the evolving nature of security challenges in a rapidly changing global and domestic landscape. Discussions covered both traditional threats and non-traditional challenges such as cybercrime, misinformation, radicalisation through digital platforms, and the protection of critical infrastructure. Participants emphasised the need for continuous capacity building, training, and modernisation of security forces to address these challenges effectively.

The conference also reviewed measures aimed at strengthening people-centric policing and reinforcing public trust in security institutions. Officers stressed that community engagement, grievance redressal, and transparent policing practices play a crucial role in maintaining social harmony and preventing conflict. Ensuring citizen safety while upholding democratic values was reiterated as a core objective of the security apparatus.

In line with the guidance of the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister, the meeting reaffirmed the commitment to a zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism, organised crime, and activities that threaten national unity and integrity. The importance of safeguarding democratic institutions and ensuring uninterrupted development activities was highlighted as central to the vision of a secure and prosperous India.

The UT-level conference concluded with a resolve to translate deliberations into concrete, time-bound action on the ground. Senior officers were directed to regularly review security preparedness, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and adopt best practices discussed during the conference.

By aligning local security priorities with the national vision of Viksit Bharat, the conference underscored the government’s determination to ensure that security remains a strong foundation for inclusive growth, good governance, and long-term peace.
