Jan 30: In a significant relief for students affected by prolonged adverse weather conditions, the JKBOSE has announced a 15 per cent syllabus concession for students of Classes 10, 11 and 12 belonging to the Summer Zone of the Jammu Division. The decision comes in view of academic disruptions caused by extended spells of bad weather, including snowfall, rainfall and cold wave conditions that impacted regular classroom teaching.

According to officials, the concession aims to reduce academic stress and ensure fair preparation time for students appearing in the upcoming board examinations. The move has been welcomed by students, parents and educators, who had been demanding relief following repeated disruptions in the academic calendar.

As per the revised examination schedule, Class 10 board exams will commence from February 17, Class 12 exams from February 23, and Class 11 exams from February 28. The syllabus relaxation will apply to subjects identified by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE), ensuring that assessment remains balanced and student-friendly.

Education authorities stated that the decision reflects the government’s sensitivity towards student welfare and its commitment to maintaining academic equity. Many areas in the Summer Zone witnessed frequent school closures and irregular attendance due to harsh weather, making it challenging for teachers to complete the syllabus within the stipulated time.

Officials further clarified that the syllabus concession will not dilute academic standards but will instead focus on ensuring that students are evaluated on content that was reasonably covered during classroom instruction. Schools and teachers have been advised to guide students accordingly and prioritise revision of the remaining syllabus.

The announcement is expected to benefit thousands of students across districts in the Jammu Division, helping them approach the examinations with greater confidence. Education experts believe that such timely interventions play a crucial role in supporting students during unforeseen disruptions while safeguarding the integrity of the education system.

With board exams approaching, the government has also reiterated its focus on the smooth conduct of examinations, adequate facilitation at centres, and continued academic support to students. The 15 per cent syllabus concession stands as part of a broader people-centric approach aimed at easing academic pressure and ensuring inclusive educational outcomes across Jammu and Kashmir.
