Lakhpati Didis Are Pillars of Rural Progress: Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan

AUG 16: Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, met with the inspiring ‘Lakhpati Didis’ and farmers from Madhya Pradesh, who were in the capital as special guests for the Independence Day celebrations. The meeting took place at the Minister’s residence, where warm interactions and motivational exchanges marked the occasion.

Calling the Didis “the pride of the nation and carriers of development,” the Minister applauded their journey of empowerment through the National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM). He emphasized that his life’s goal is to see every woman in the country rise above poverty, become self-reliant, and actively contribute to India’s progress.

Reflecting on his efforts as former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh—especially through the Ladli Behna Yojana—Shri Chouhan encouraged the women to now aim even higher. “You’ve become Lakhpati Didis—now strive to become Millionaire Didis. No goal is out of reach if you’re determined,” he told them.

He also urged the Didis to play a leading role in promoting de-addiction campaigns in villages and work towards eliminating alcohol from rural communities. He called for gender equality, underlining the need to provide equal opportunities and values to both sons and daughters.

The Didis shared their stories of transformation and thanked the Minister for the life-changing support through DAY-NRLM. Farmers from the state also expressed gratitude for the continued support and opportunities offered to them.

The event reflected a strong message: empowered women and supported farmers are the backbone of a stronger, self-reliant rural India.
