Kishtwar Tragedy: CM Offers Relief, Orders Urgent Infrastructure Restoration

AUG 16: In the aftermath of a devastating cloudburst that struck parts of Kishtwar district, the Chief Minister visited the affected areas today to assess the damage and meet families impacted by the natural calamity.

Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives and destruction of property, the CM extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assured them that the government stands firmly with them in this hour of grief. He emphasized that every effort would be made to provide immediate relief and long-term support.

To offer immediate succor, the Chief Minister announced ex-gratia relief from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund:

  • ₹2 lakh will be given to the families of each deceased victim.

  • ₹1 lakh for individuals severely injured, and ₹50,000 for those with minor injuries.

  • ₹1 lakh will be provided for fully damaged residential structures.

  • ₹50,000 for severely damaged homes.

  • ₹25,000 for partially damaged houses.

In addition to financial relief, the CM issued strict instructions for the immediate restoration of damaged infrastructure, including roads, water supply systems, and power lines in the affected region. Officials have been directed to carry out assessment and rehabilitation works on a war footing.

The visit brought much-needed assurance to the local residents, many of whom have lost everything. The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to rebuilding lives and infrastructure swiftly, saying the people of Kishtwar will not be left alone in this difficult time.
