Lean Manufacturing Practices Promoted at MSME Awareness Program in Jammu

MARCH 5:An awareness program on the LEAN competitive scheme of the Union Ministry of MSME was recently organized by the MSME-Development & Facilitation Office (DFO) in collaboration with the Association of Small Scale Industries Gangyal. The initiative aimed at encouraging MSMEs in the region to adopt LEAN principles to manufacture world-class quality products while minimizing waste during the production process. This includes optimizing processes such as the storage of raw materials, the arrangement of tools, the scientific placement of machinery, material handling, workforce optimization, and the storage of finished goods. The program also focused on conducting motion studies to improve overall operational efficiency.

The MSME-Development & Facilitation Office is a key field office of the Union Ministry of MSME, tasked with implementing various schemes and activities aimed at the growth and development of the MSME sector in Jammu & Kashmir. This office plays a crucial role in driving initiatives that support the region’s industrial progress.

Among the various activities conducted by the office are the Entrepreneurship Awareness Program, Intellectual Property Rights Awareness Program, PM-Vishwakarma Seminar, and the PM-Vishwakarma Awareness Workshop. Other initiatives include Entrepreneurship & Skill Development Programs, Management Development Programs, and various reimbursement schemes for barcode expenditure, stall charges, and advertising costs for MSMEs participating in approved trade fairs and exhibitions.

The Union Ministry of MSME also provides significant subsidies, ranging from ₹12 lakh to ₹32 lakh, for any LEAN cluster. The list of approved exhibitions, where MSMEs can avail of benefits, can be accessed through the official portal at https://my.msme.gov.in/MyMsme/Reg/COM_ViewEvent.aspx.

Additionally, D.K. Tyagi, Assistant Director at MSME-DFO, provided a comprehensive overview of the various schemes and activities implemented by the field office to support the growth of the MSME sector.
