AUG 14: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today interacted with players participating in the Bijbehara Premier League (BPL) at Anantnag, describing the tournament as the most prestigious cricket event in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. He said the BPL has become a vital platform for budding cricketers to demonstrate their skills and secure opportunities to represent the region at national and even international levels.
The Lieutenant Governor highlighted that Jammu & Kashmir has firmly established itself on India’s sporting map. He credited this achievement to sustained efforts over the past five years to build state-of-the-art sports facilities, encourage participation across disciplines, and create a nurturing environment for athletes to thrive.
“Since 2020, we have embraced a player-centred approach that focuses on the holistic development of sportspersons and enables them to realise their full potential,” Shri Sinha stated. He emphasised that the administration’s sports policy is designed to identify talent at the grassroots level, provide world-class training, and ensure that promising players receive the exposure they need to compete at higher levels.
According to the LG, the Union Territory has implemented a well-defined strategy backed by efficient execution to promote a strong sporting culture. Initiatives include upgrading stadiums, establishing indoor training facilities, and organising regular tournaments in various districts to identify emerging talent.
Shri Sinha also acknowledged the role of such tournaments as the BPL in uniting communities, promoting youth engagement, and inspiring the next generation of athletes. “The Bijbehara Premier League is more than just a cricket competition—it is a symbol of the region’s sporting spirit and ambition,” he remarked.
He assured the players and organisers that the government will continue to extend full support to initiatives that strengthen Jammu & Kashmir’s position as a hub for sports excellence in the country.
