OCT 12:Minister Javid Dar attended the virtual launch of the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) and the Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in Baramulla. The event, joined by MLA Javid Hassan Beigh, local officials, and a large gathering of farmers, marked a major step toward agricultural transformation and farmer empowerment in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The PMDDKY and Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission are national initiatives aimed at improving agricultural productivity, ensuring food security, and reducing dependence on imports. These schemes will provide farmers with advanced technology, better irrigation support, quality seeds, and market linkages—creating sustainable agricultural growth and self-sufficiency.

Addressing the farmers, Minister Javid Dar highlighted the government’s consistent efforts to modernize agriculture and uplift the rural economy. He said that these schemes reflect the Prime Minister’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat”, where farmers play a key role in driving economic growth and ensuring nutritional security for the nation.

He emphasized that the Baramulla district, known for its rich agricultural heritage, has immense potential to become a model of sustainable farming. The Minister urged farmers to adopt modern cultivation methods, take advantage of government schemes, and diversify into high-yield crops such as pulses and oilseeds.

MLA Javid Hassan Beigh also addressed the gathering, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving farmers’ income and ensuring that benefits of central schemes reach every household.

Farmers expressed optimism about the new initiatives, hoping for better access to resources, markets, and crop insurance. The launch of PMDDKY and Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission is expected to strengthen India’s agri-economy, boost rural livelihoods, and contribute to national food sufficiency goals.

Together, these efforts signify a powerful step toward sustainable agricultural development, empowering farmers as key pillars of India’s growth story.
