NOV 13:Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Udhampur West, Pawan Gupta, today flagged off a group of 40 progressive farmers from Panchari for a three-day exposure visit to Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bhaderwah. The visit is part of the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) project titled “Promotion of Commercial Cultivation of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants.”
The exposure tour aims to familiarize farmers with modern agricultural innovations and technological interventions that can enhance productivity, profitability, and sustainability in hill and mountain regions. During their visit, farmers will observe demonstrations of experimental farm trials, improved plant varieties, and cultivation techniques related to medicinal and aromatic plants, floriculture, cereals, and vegetables.
MLA Pawan Gupta appreciated the efforts of the Agriculture Department for implementing the HADP initiative effectively and empowering farmers through skill-based learning. He urged the participants to make the most of this opportunity by adopting new practices and technologies that can improve their livelihoods and contribute to the growth of the agricultural sector in Udhampur district.
The programme will allow farmers to interact directly with scientists, agricultural experts, and extension officers, enabling them to gain practical knowledge of modern cultivation, production, and marketing strategies. Special emphasis will be laid on the art of cultivating ornamental and medicinal plants, along with developing market linkages for their commercial promotion.
The KVK Bhaderwah has been playing a pivotal role in research and demonstration of region-specific technologies for hill and mountain farmers. Its focus on sustainable farming models aligns with the government’s mission to promote self-reliant and climate-resilient agriculture.
The tour is being conducted under the close supervision of Chief Agriculture Officer Harbans Singh and Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO) Ajay Sharma, who have ensured smooth coordination and logistical arrangements for the visiting farmers. The initiative marks another step towards strengthening the agricultural ecosystem of the Udhampur district through learning, innovation, and farmer empowerment.
