SEP 19: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary paid an official visit to the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Budgam to assess the academic environment, inspect infrastructure, and review ongoing developmental works on campus.

During his tour, the Deputy CM inspected the institute’s state-of-the-art laboratories and interacted with students to understand their academic experiences and aspirations. He expressed satisfaction over the quality of infrastructure and emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in all construction and developmental activities on campus. He directed executing agencies to ensure top-tier workmanship and timely completion of ongoing works.

In a move to promote holistic development, Choudhary assured the development of a sports field near the campus, enhancing recreational facilities for students. He also proposed that NIFT initiate specialized skill-based workshops for students of Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) and local craft persons. This, he said, would create stronger linkages between traditional artisans and modern design practices, empowering the local workforce.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to nurturing innovation and creative talent, the Deputy CM reaffirmed full support to NIFT Budgam in its journey to become a premier center of design excellence in the region.

Choudhary appreciated the role NIFT plays in shaping the design ecosystem of Jammu & Kashmir and stressed continued efforts to integrate academic learning with practical, market-driven skills.
