SEP 19: In a proactive move to boost the adoption of renewable energy in Jammu & Kashmir, Minister Satish Sharma paid a surprise visit to the ‘Tawanai Ghar’ facility of the Science & Technology (S&T) Department located in Bemina. The visit was aimed at reviewing ongoing initiatives and exploring the potential of solar energy solutions suited to the region’s unique needs.

While interacting with the officials at the facility, Minister Sharma emphasized the urgent need for innovative, cost-effective, and region-specific solar energy technologies. He urged the department to accelerate the development and deployment of practical solar applications that could be implemented across urban and rural landscapes in J&K.

The Minister particularly stressed the importance of energy independence in remote areas and highlighted how solar energy could transform the region’s energy profile. He called for collaborations with academic institutions, startups, and research bodies to encourage homegrown solar technologies and increase the use of indigenous solutions.

He appreciated the role of ‘Tawanai Ghar’ as a hub for sustainable energy research and directed the officers to strengthen its infrastructure and outreach. Sharma also encouraged awareness programs to educate the public about the benefits of solar energy.

The visit reflects the government’s growing commitment to green energy and sustainable development, aligning with national priorities to reduce carbon footprints and embrace eco-friendly power sources.

With rising energy demands and environmental concerns, Sharma’s visit underscores the importance of innovation in the energy sector, especially in regions like Jammu & Kashmir that hold immense potential for renewable energy deployment.
