17 April: In a significant move to strengthen trade connectivity, Northern Railway is set to launch a JPP-RCS (Jan Sadharan Parcel Product–Roll-on Roll-off Cargo Service) train between Delhi and Budgam, aimed at benefiting traders from Kashmir.
The new service is expected to provide a faster, more reliable, and cost-effective mode of transporting goods between the national capital and the Kashmir Valley. It will particularly support small and medium-scale traders by ensuring the timely delivery of perishable and non-perishable commodities.
Officials stated that the introduction of the JPP-RCS train is part of broader efforts by Indian Railways to enhance freight infrastructure and promote economic growth in the region. The service will facilitate smoother movement of agricultural produce, handicrafts, and other locally manufactured goods from Kashmir to larger markets.
The initiative is expected to reduce logistical challenges faced by traders, especially during peak seasons when road transport often becomes unreliable due to weather conditions. With rail connectivity offering a more stable alternative, traders will be able to expand their reach and improve supply chain efficiency.
Authorities highlighted that the new train service aligns with the government’s focus on boosting regional trade and improving connectivity in Jammu & Kashmir. It will also help in reducing transportation costs, thereby increasing profitability for local businesses.
Traders in the Kashmir Valley have welcomed the move, expressing optimism that improved logistics will open up new market opportunities and enhance business prospects.
