AUG 02: On the release of the 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, Union Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan addressed a large gathering of farmers in Patna, Bihar, on August 2, 2025. The event was attended by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha, Cooperative Minister Prem Kumar, and other dignitaries.

Describing agriculture as the backbone of the Indian economy and farmers as its soul, Shri Chouhan paid heartfelt tribute to the contribution of farmers, particularly women farmers present in large numbers. He highlighted the continued commitment of the government to ensure their welfare.

He proudly announced that under PM-KISAN, ₹3.77 lakh crore has been directly transferred to farmers’ accounts so far, eliminating leakages. On this occasion alone, ₹20,000 crore was credited to the accounts of lakhs of farmers across the nation.

Shri Chouhan praised Bihar’s legacy of knowledge, labour, and resistance, recalling Champaran Satyagraha and the contributions of the people of the state. He also noted Bihar’s leadership in Makhana production, underlining efforts to blend agricultural science with traditional practices.

He emphasized programs like the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Yojana, aiming to enhance per hectare productivity, especially in underperforming regions. He assured farmers of timely availability of fertilizers, pesticides, and compensation for crop loss through multiple schemes.

Discussing Minimum Support Price (MSP) reforms, he said the government now ensures 50% profit over the production cost, reaffirming a farmer-first approach.

The Minister concluded by stating that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, farmers’ welfare remains the top national priority, with Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) playing a key role in delivering full financial support directly to their accounts.
