Dec 6: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, addressed the annual convocation of Amity University in Noida, emphasizing the vital role of universities in nurturing talent and shaping India’s future leadership. Nearly 29,000 students—from on-campus and online programs—received their degrees, marking a major milestone in the institution’s academic calendar.

Shri Goyal said that the greatest service a university can offer the nation is to encourage talented students to return, support their growth, and provide a platform that respects their potential. Praising the strong academic ecosystem at Amity, he highlighted the university’s merit-based scholarships, gender parity in student enrolment, and culture of innovation, reflected in over 450 patents held by students. He also appreciated the return of 50 Ramalingam Swami Fellows to contribute to India’s academic and research ecosystem.

Recalling the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvan Diwas, Shri Goyal reaffirmed the importance of equality, social harmony, and educational empowerment for all. He reminded the graduates that education is a powerful tool for uplifting disadvantaged communities and strengthening national unity.

Positioning the graduating batch as an essential part of India’s transformation into a developed nation by 2047, the Minister urged students to push boundaries, pursue excellence, and contribute meaningfully to national development. He reiterated the Prime Minister’s call for one lakh young Indians to explore careers in public life and politics, noting that strong, ethical leaders are essential for inspiring 140 crore citizens to fulfil their duties towards the nation.

Shri Goyal encouraged universities to deepen students’ understanding of governance and public service. He suggested that institutions offer opportunities for students to intern with elected representatives, enabling young people to observe policymaking and administrative responsibilities firsthand.

Referencing an early computer lesson, “garbage in, garbage out,” he stressed the need for committed, value-driven individuals to enter Indian politics. He expressed confidence that if more young people with integrity join public service, India’s rise as a global superpower would accelerate.

The Minister revisited the Prime Minister’s five guiding principles outlined during the 75th Independence Day celebrations—key pillars envisioned to lead India from 2022 to 2047. He encouraged students to reflect on these principles and integrate them into their lives as responsible citizens.

The first pran, the resolve for a developed India, places young professionals at the centre of the nation’s progress. Shri Goyal noted that the next 25 years are crucial for achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat.

The second pran, freeing India from a colonial mindset, called upon students to break outdated thought patterns and take pride in Indian traditions. He suggested shifting from Western convocation gowns to attire rooted in Indian culture.

The third pran, pride in India’s heritage, urged graduates to value the country’s diverse knowledge systems and ancient wisdom while embracing modern growth.

The fourth pran, unity in diversity, reminded the youth that India’s strength lies in collaboration, inclusivity, and cultural harmony.

The fifth pran, the spirit of duty, emphasized that education must serve not just personal ambitions but also families, communities, and the nation.

Shri Goyal expressed heartfelt appreciation for teachers and parents for their relentless guidance and sacrifices. He encouraged graduates to stay connected with their alma mater and uphold the values imparted to them.

As the convocation concluded, the Minister reminded students that challenges are inevitable, but the education and values gained at Amity University have equipped them to face the future with confidence. He urged them to commit themselves to nation-building and contribute actively to India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation.
