New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to undertake a major development-focused visit to Gujarat and Maharashtra on September 8, with projects worth more than ₹35,000 crore scheduled for inauguration, dedication or foundation stone laying in Vadodara.
During his Gujarat visit, the Prime Minister will focus heavily on railway, freight, highway and urban infrastructure projects, while his Maharashtra programme will centre on financial technology and India’s growing digital economy.
Western Dedicated Freight Corridor Set for Full-Length Operations
In Vadodara, PM Modi will dedicate three important sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) to the nation. Together, the sections cover 326 route kilometres and have been developed at a cost of more than ₹20,700 crore.
The sections are Sanand (North)-Makarpura, New Umbergaon-New Saphale and New Saphale-JNPT.
Their commissioning will establish direct freight connectivity with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, supporting quicker movement of export-import cargo between industrial centres and ports.
The new infrastructure is expected to reduce logistics costs, improve multimodal connectivity and help ease pressure on Mumbai’s existing railway network.
PM Modi will also flag off freight train services from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umbergaon and New JNPT in Mumbai.
The completion of these sections will make the Dedicated Freight Corridor network operational across its entire planned length, strengthening India’s freight transportation infrastructure.
New Rail Connectivity for Tribal and Remote Areas
The Prime Minister will also dedicate the Jobat-Tanda Road new rail line, developed under the Chhota Udepur-Dhar railway project.
The line will connect remote and tribal areas of Alirajpur with the national railway network, improving access to transportation and creating better connectivity for local communities.
A new train service between Vadodara and Tanda Road will also be flagged off, benefiting passengers in Vadodara, Chhota Udepur and Alirajpur districts.
In addition, foundation stones will be laid for three railway projects covering 329 kilometres, with a combined estimated cost of more than ₹9,700 crore.
These include the Vadodara-Ratlam third and fourth railway lines, Miyagam Karjan-Choranda-Malsar gauge conversion and Vishwamitri-Dabhoi doubling project.
The projects are expected to increase railway capacity, reduce congestion and strengthen connections between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Highway Projects to Improve Road Connectivity
Road infrastructure will also form a significant part of the Prime Minister’s Gujarat programme.
Foundation stones will be laid for three National Highway projects costing around ₹1,780 crore. These include six-laning of the Kamrej-Chalthan section of NH-48, additional structures and major bridges over the Tapi and Narmada on the Vadodara-Surat section of NH-48, and grade-separated structures at key junctions on NH-53.
Six-lane flyovers at Kandari Chokdi and Luvara Patia will also be inaugurated to improve road safety and address identified accident-prone stretches on NH-48.
Gujarat Government Projects Worth ₹2,600 Crore
Several state government projects valued at around ₹2,600 crore will also be launched or inaugurated.
Among the projects receiving foundation stones are Phase II of the Vadodara Urban Development Authority Ring Road, a 110 MW floating solar power project at Kadana Dam and a new Vadodara Municipal Corporation office building.
Housing projects under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and a water supply project covering 11 villages in eastern Vadodara are among the initiatives scheduled for inauguration.
PM Modi to Inaugurate Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai
After his Gujarat programme, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Mumbai to inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 and address participants.
The seventh edition of GFF is being held in Mumbai from September 8 to 11. The event has developed into an international platform bringing together policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, fintech companies, technology firms, investors and academic institutions.
The theme of GFF 2026 is “Potential to Impact: Agentic AI, Tokenisation, Quantum – Trusted, Connected, Global Systems for Inclusive Finance.”
Discussions will examine the potential of emerging technologies such as Agentic AI, programmable finance, tokenisation and quantum technologies to create more inclusive and trusted financial systems.
The event will also draw on India’s experience with digital payments and financial inclusion while examining how technological innovation can translate into wider economic and social benefits.
PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the fintech gathering at around 5:45 PM.
The Prime Minister’s two-state visit brings together two major areas of India’s development agenda — large-scale physical infrastructure in Gujarat and the country’s expanding technology-driven financial ecosystem in Maharashtra.
