Feb 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today extended warm greetings to the people of Arunachal Pradesh on the occasion of the state’s Statehood Day.
In his message, the Prime Minister lauded Arunachal Pradesh as a shining example of harmony between tradition and the natural environment. He highlighted the state’s majestic landscapes, extraordinary cultural diversity and the invaluable contribution of its citizens to India’s overall progress.
Tribute to Cultural and Natural Heritage
In a post shared on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister conveyed his best wishes to the people of Arunachal Pradesh and praised the state’s unique identity.
He noted that Arunachal Pradesh, blessed with breathtaking natural beauty and rich biodiversity, represents a seamless blend of ecological balance and age-old traditions. The state’s diverse tribal communities, vibrant customs, and cultural heritage, he said, add immense richness to the nation’s fabric.
The Prime Minister observed that the spirited and industrious citizens of Arunachal Pradesh play a vital role in strengthening India’s development journey. Their dedication, resilience and cultural pride continue to contribute meaningfully to national progress.
A Milestone in India’s Federal Journey
Arunachal Pradesh attained full statehood on February 20, 1987, becoming the 24th state of India. Since then, the northeastern state has steadily advanced in sectors such as infrastructure, connectivity, tourism, education and renewable energy.
Located in the easternmost part of the country, Arunachal Pradesh shares international borders with China, Bhutan and Myanmar, making it strategically significant as well as culturally distinctive. The state is home to numerous indigenous tribes, each with its own traditions, dialects and festivals.
The Prime Minister’s message acknowledged this diversity as a source of strength for the country. He emphasised that the tribal ethos of Arunachal Pradesh enriches India’s collective heritage and reflects the spirit of unity in diversity.
Development and Connectivity
Over the years, Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed increased focus on infrastructure development, including road connectivity, rural electrification and digital expansion. Efforts to strengthen border infrastructure and improve transportation links have enhanced accessibility to remote areas.
The Prime Minister expressed hope that the state continues to scale new heights of development in the coming years. He reiterated the Centre’s commitment to supporting the progress of northeastern states, recognising their strategic importance and developmental potential.
Harmony Between Tradition and Modernity
Arunachal Pradesh stands out for its harmonious coexistence of tradition and modern aspirations. While preserving tribal customs, folk art and ecological heritage, the state has also embraced new opportunities in tourism, agriculture and entrepreneurship.
Festivals such as Losar, Solung, Nyokum and Dree showcase the vibrant cultural tapestry of the region. The state’s scenic beauty — from snow-capped mountains to lush valleys and river systems — attracts visitors from across the country and abroad.
In his message, Prime Minister Modi underlined that this balance between cultural preservation and developmental ambition makes Arunachal Pradesh a model of sustainable growth.
Looking Ahead
Statehood Day celebrations across Arunachal Pradesh typically include cultural programmes, official ceremonies and community events reflecting pride in the state’s journey since attaining full-fledged status.
The Prime Minister’s greetings add to the nationwide recognition of the state’s achievements and aspirations. As Arunachal Pradesh marks another milestone in its journey, the emphasis remains on inclusive development, infrastructure growth and preservation of its unique tribal identity.
Concluding his message, the Prime Minister wished that the state continue to achieve new milestones of prosperity and development in the years ahead.
