SEP 02: The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, graced the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) in Mysuru, Karnataka. The event was also attended by Shri Thawar Chand Gehlot, Governor of Karnataka; Shri Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister of Karnataka; Smt. Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare; Shri Dinesh Gundu Rao, Karnataka Health Minister; and Shri Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Member of Parliament from Mysore.
In her address, President Murmu congratulated the institution on completing six decades of dedicated service. She praised AIISH for its outstanding contributions in education, research, and clinical services in the field of speech and hearing. “It gives me immense pleasure to be present on this historic occasion. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all directors, faculty members, administrators, and students—past and present—whose valuable work in the diagnosis and treatment of communication disorders has brought pride to the nation,” she said.
Established in 1965, AIISH functions as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Over the years, it has emerged as a premier institution in South Asia, known for human resource development, patient care, training, research, and rehabilitation in communication disorders. The institute offers diploma, graduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral fellowship programs, along with comprehensive clinical services to patients and their families.
Today, AIISH is recognized as a centre of excellence in the South East Asia region, playing a vital role in the treatment and rehabilitation of individuals with speech and hearing impairments.
The celebrations were also attended by Ms. V. Hekali Zhimomi, Additional Secretary, MoHFW, along with senior government officers, faculty members, and students, marking a memorable milestone in AIISH’s journey.
