Jan 26: The Delhi Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory to ensure the smooth conduct of the Republic Day ceremonial parade and associated cultural events in the national capital. Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys and avoid movement in Central Delhi during restricted hours.
As per the advisory, the Republic Day Parade will follow its traditional route from Vijay Chowk to the Red Fort. Elaborate traffic arrangements and security measures have been put in place to facilitate the event, which draws thousands of spectators each year.
Traffic restrictions, which came into force late last night, will remain effective throughout the duration of the parade today. Kartavya Path will remain completely closed to traffic until the parade concludes. Additionally, no vehicular crossing will be allowed on Kartavya Path between Vijay Chowk and India Gate till 2:00 PM.
The C-Hexagon near India Gate will also remain closed to traffic from 9:15 AM onwards. Further, traffic diversions will be implemented on Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, and Netaji Subhash Marg from 10:30 AM onwards. The police have urged citizens to strictly follow traffic instructions and cooperate with on-ground personnel.
Delhi Police has also informed residents about route-restricted zones and alternate corridors that will be operational during the celebrations. Commuters have been strongly advised to avoid the parade route and adjoining areas unless travel is essential, to minimise congestion and inconvenience.
To facilitate easy movement of spectators, the Delhi Metro began operations at 3:00 AM today on all lines. According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), trains are operating at 15-minute intervals until 6:00 AM, after which the regular timetable will be followed for the rest of the day.
Delhi Metro has encouraged passengers to take advantage of the early morning services to reach Kartavya Path and other designated viewing areas in time, while avoiding last-minute rush and delays.
Authorities have reiterated that these measures are aimed at ensuring public safety, smooth traffic flow, and the successful conduct of Republic Day celebrations. Citizens have been urged to remain patient, follow advisories, and use public transport wherever possible.
