May 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tribute to freedom fighter and nationalist icon Vinayak Damodar Savarkar on his birth anniversary, emphasizing that his sacrifices and unwavering spirit continue to inspire generations across India. Recalling the life and legacy of Veer Savarkar, the Prime Minister said that his courage, commitment to national unity, and resistance against colonial rule remain a source of strength and pride for the country.

Addressing the nation, PM Modi stated that “Savarkar’s sacrifice inspires the nation” not only through his revolutionary contributions during the freedom struggle but also through his intellectual pursuits and advocacy for a strong, self-reliant India. He hailed Savarkar as a visionary who understood the importance of national security and cultural pride at a time when India was under severe oppression.

Born in 1883, Savarkar was a bold and fiery revolutionary who endured years of brutal incarceration in the Cellular Jail of the Andaman Islands for his role in the independence movement. PM Modi highlighted how Savarkar’s life was one of relentless struggle, both physical and ideological, against colonialism, and how his contributions extended well beyond prison walls—into literature, social reform, and nation-building.

Prime Minister Modi also underscored Savarkar’s call for unity, especially his belief in rising above caste and regional divisions to strengthen national identity. He urged the youth to draw lessons from Savarkar’s life and to channel their energies towards building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, a self-reliant India driven by dedication, innovation, and collective responsibility.

Several events and tribute programs were held across the country to commemorate Savarkar Jayanti, reaffirming his enduring influence in shaping India’s nationalist thought and modern history. Leaders, intellectuals, and citizens paid homage to the fearless patriot whose pen and sword both fought valiantly for India’s freedom.

Savarkar’s ideals, PM Modi emphasized, remain ever-relevant in today’s times as India charts its course as a confident, empowered, and united nation on the global stage.
