9 May: Ahead of the annual Shri Budha Amarnath Ji Yatra, solar street lights have been installed at important religious locations and pilgrim facilities in Poonch to improve safety and convenience for devotees.

The initiative was inaugurated by Ajaz Jan, who oversaw the installation of solar-powered lighting systems at key points associated with the pilgrimage route, including the Shri Dashnami Akhara base camp.

Officials said the project has been undertaken to ensure better illumination and smoother arrangements for pilgrims visiting the holy shrine during the yatra season. The use of solar street lights is also expected to promote sustainable and energy-efficient infrastructure in the area.

Speaking on the occasion, Ajaz Jan emphasized the importance of providing safe and comfortable facilities for devotees arriving from different parts of the country. He stated that proper lighting at religious sites and camps is essential for improving security and assisting pilgrims during night hours.

The annual Shri Budha Amarnath Ji Yatra attracts a large number of devotees every year, making arrangements related to infrastructure, transport, sanitation, and security a priority for local authorities.

Residents and members of religious organisations welcomed the initiative, saying the installation of solar lights would greatly improve visibility and accessibility around the pilgrimage sites and accommodation areas.

Officials noted that preparations for the yatra are being carried out on multiple fronts to ensure a smooth and peaceful pilgrimage experience. Alongside lighting facilities, authorities are also focusing on road connectivity, sanitation measures, and public convenience services.

The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure for religious tourism while encouraging the use of clean and renewable energy solutions in Jammu and Kashmir.

With the yatra season approaching, the newly installed solar street lights are expected to provide better support and safety for thousands of pilgrims visiting the shrine.
