10 May: UDHAMPUR: Preparations for Census 2027 have officially begun in Udhampur, with the upcoming exercise set to become India’s first fully digital census.
Officials said the digital transformation of the census process aims to improve efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility while simplifying data collection and verification for citizens and authorities alike.
Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa stated that residents will be able to pre-register online through the official census portal using a newly introduced self-registration facility.
Under the system, citizens can digitally submit household information and socio-economic details from their homes. The submitted data will later be verified by field teams during the official census process to ensure accuracy and transparency.
Authorities believe the digital model will reduce paperwork, speed up data processing, and improve the overall management of census operations. Officials added that the initiative is part of broader efforts to modernise governance systems and promote digital public services across the country.
The administration has also started awareness and preparatory activities to familiarise citizens with the online registration process. Officials said proper coordination and training of census staff will be essential for the smooth conduct of the exercise.
According to authorities, the fully digital census is expected to provide more reliable and real-time data, which can help in policy planning, development programmes, and efficient allocation of resources.
