8 May: POONCH: World Athletics Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Government High School Degwar Maldiyana in collaboration with the Education Department and the Youth Services and Sports Department.
The programme witnessed active participation from students and staff, with a series of athletic and sports activities organised to encourage physical fitness, healthy competition, and youth engagement in sports.
Various track and field activities were conducted during the event, creating an energetic atmosphere on the school campus. Students enthusiastically participated in the competitions, showcasing teamwork, discipline, and sporting spirit.
Speaking on the occasion, teacher Mohd Altaf highlighted the importance of sports and athletics in the education system. He said that sports activities play a vital role in the overall development of students by helping them build confidence, discipline, leadership qualities, and teamwork skills.
He also emphasized that events like World Athletics Day motivate students to adopt healthier lifestyles and develop a positive attitude toward physical activity. According to educators, regular participation in sports contributes significantly to mental and physical well-being.
Officials from the Youth Services and Sports Department encouraged students to actively participate in games and athletics, noting that such programmes help identify young talent and promote a culture of sportsmanship in rural areas.
