894 Pension Grievances Taken Up at 14th Pension Adalat

Dr Jitendra Singh

SEP 10: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh chaired the 14th Pension Adalat today at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, reaffirming the government’s commitment to pensioners as valued contributors to nation-building. The Adalat, organized by the Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW), focused on the theme “Family Pensioners & Super Senior Pensioners”, addressing 894 long-pending grievances from 21 Ministries and Departments.

Highlighting the success of the initiative, Dr. Singh noted that over 25,800 pension grievances have been taken up through 13 Pension Adalats so far, with 18,481 cases resolved. The 14th edition continued this momentum, providing long-overdue relief to elderly pensioners and families awaiting justice for years.

Among the notable cases resolved were:

  • Hony. Lt. Balveer Singh (Punjab Regiment) received ₹46.04 lakh in delayed disability and commutation pension.

  • Lt. Col. Partap Chand Sood, retired in 1994, received ₹18.89 lakh in notional pension arrears.

  • Smt. Champa Rautela, aged 84, finally received ₹15 lakh in family pension dues after a decade-long wait.

Grievances from departments such as Defence (313 cases), Ex-Servicemen Welfare (250 cases), and Banking (128 cases) dominated the Adalat.

Dr. Singh emphasized that the Pension Adalats serve not only as grievance redressal platforms but also as justice delivery mechanisms for society’s most vulnerable—widows, super senior citizens, and family pensioners. He called for Grievance Help Desks in all ministries and improved digital tracking systems for timely resolutions.

“The settlement of each case is not just financial—it restores dignity, respect, and faith in the system,” Dr. Singh said, highlighting the government’s commitment to ensure dignity, timely justice, and financial security for pensioners and their families.
