MARCH 6:The Government College of Education (GCOE), Jammu, in collaboration with the Centre for Women’s Studies (JU) and the Rotary Club Jammu Elite, successfully organized a One-Day International Workshop and Panel Discussion on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The event, titled “Breaking the Barrier: Women Empowerment”, focused on empowering women, addressing gender equality, and celebrating the remarkable achievements of women in various fields.
Held under the guidance of Chief Patron Dr. Jyoti Parihar and Prof. Savita Nayyar, the event was shaped by their leadership and vision. The organizing committee also included Dr. Shubhra Jamwal, Dr. Rajinder Kour, Prof. Satish K Sharma, Dr. Davinder Kour, Prof. Sarita Dogra, Prof. Roopa Kumari, Prof. Sunanda Rani, Prof. Priyanka Mahajan, Prof. Chanchal Singh, and Dr. Sonam Gupta. Their collective efforts were instrumental in the successful execution of the workshop, which brought together thought leaders and experts from diverse fields to discuss and promote women’s empowerment.
The workshop featured a distinguished panel of resource persons, each contributing invaluable insights into the theme of the event. Among them were Dr. Marcia Jane, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Language Study, University Teknologi Mara (UITM), Malaysia; Prof. Dr. Savita Nayyar, Professor of Law and Director of the Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu; Prof. Monika Chadda, Chairperson of the Campus Cultural Committee at University of Jammu; Ms. Mandeep Kaur, Inspector at J&K Police; Ms. Anuradha Thakur, Deputy Secretary at JKAS Mission Youth; Dr. Sushma Rani, Principal of SCERT Jammu; and Ms. Ruchika Gupta, Chairperson of FICCI FLO JKL, Jammu. Their diverse perspectives and expertise enriched the discussions, which centered on dismantling barriers to women’s empowerment and promoting gender equity.
The event served as a vital platform for an in-depth discussion on the challenges and barriers that need to be removed to achieve women’s empowerment, leadership, and gender equity. The panelists shared their experiences and ideas on how to empower women in leadership roles and ensure that women have equal access to opportunities in various sectors of society.
The workshop reinforced the commitment of the Government College of Education, Jammu, and the Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu, to fostering a more inclusive, equitable, and progressive society.
