APRIL 10: The District Administration Jammu, under the directions of Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya and the overall supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner Ansuya Jamwal, continues to roll out impactful Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) programmes aimed at combating drug abuse across the district.
As part of the ongoing anti-drug awareness campaign, a significant event was organized at Tawi Mahal, Udheywala, which witnessed active participation from over a hundred individuals. The attendees included ex-corporators, ex-Sarpanches, government officials, local residents, and members of the general public, reflecting a strong community interest in addressing the drug menace.
Resource persons deputed by the District Administration delivered informative presentations and speeches, creating a multi-dimensional dialogue around the issue. Tehsildar Jammu North Aman Kumar Anand, SDPO Domana Mudassar Chowdhary, Kunal Gupta from the Social Welfare Department, Dr. Sandeep from the Health Department, Naib Tehsildar Muthi Mehar Singh, and Shanti Saroop from the Education Department addressed the gathering. They spoke on the adverse effects of drug abuse, its growing threat to societal fabric, and the necessity of rehabilitation and support systems.
Adding a cultural touch, the Information Department presented a special performance by artists Mohinder, Surjit, and Balbir. Their thought-provoking music and theatrical act communicated the devastating effects of substance abuse and its link to rising crime. Art and music served as powerful mediums of awareness, leaving a strong impact on the audience.
Meanwhile, Community Hall Trilokpur in Tehsil Jammu West hosted a similar awareness program. Local residents came together to discuss proactive measures and community involvement in curbing the drug problem. The event fostered open dialogue and emphasized the collective responsibility of society.
These initiatives are part of the month-long IEC campaign launched under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, aimed at spreading awareness and engaging communities across panchayats, urban local bodies, educational institutions, and public spaces.
Further extending the campaign’s reach, anti-drug awareness drives were conducted in multiple government schools including Girls HSS Akhnoor, Girls HSS Arnia, HSS Mawa Brahmana, Girls HSS Canal Road Jammu, HSS Kharah, Girls HSS RS Pura, HSS Dablehr, and Government High School Nagrota.
