Awareness Drives Under Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan Held in Jammu’s Panchayats and Schools, Pledging Support for a Drug-Free Society

APRIL 22: As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, a series of awareness programs were organized across Jammu district today to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and promote a drug-free society.

One of the key events took place at Martyr Major Arvind Bazala Higher Secondary School (HSS) in RS Pura, under the leadership of Principal Neelam Gupta. The event featured a range of speakers, including Dr. Anupriya from the Health Department, Tara Chand (ZEPO), Intshtam-ul-Haq (Police), Priyanka Sharma, DharamPal Sharma, and Tripta Kattal, who presented thought-provoking Dogri poetry. Student Akul Lalotra delivered an impactful speech, while performers Abhi and Sanjeev entertained the audience with a dance that conveyed the importance of living a drug-free life.

The attendees at the event took a collective pledge to support the Nasha Mukt Bharat initiative, emphasizing their commitment to combatting the rising problem of drug abuse. The event was attended by officials from Excise, Social Welfare, the School Development Committee, ZEO RS Pura, and Rural Development, showcasing the united efforts of local authorities to address this issue.

In addition, Government HSS Sai Kalan also hosted an awareness program, under the guidance of Vice Principal Sohan Singh Chib. Dr. Gagandeep Kour discussed the harmful effects of drugs and the medical distinctions between various substances. Vice Principal Sohan Singh provided valuable insights into the different types of drugs and the available rehabilitation centers for those seeking help. Rawan Kumar delivered a speech about the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, while Chetna shared important helpline numbers for individuals struggling with addiction.

Tara Singh Choudhary, former Vice Sarpanch, highlighted the significant role of sports in preventing drug abuse and encouraged students to engage in physical activities as an alternative to drug use. The event also included a skit performed by students, which further emphasized the importance of staying away from drugs, along with a video screening that illustrated the consequences of drug abuse.

The awareness program saw active participation from around 100 people, including students, teachers, volunteers, and residents from the Sai and Nikowal Panchayats.

In total, similar awareness events were held in 18 panchayats across Jammu district today, strengthening the community’s resolve to make Jammu a drug-free region.
