APRIL 28: As part of its intensified Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign under the Drug-Free Jammu & Kashmir initiative, the District Administration Srinagar organized a comprehensive awareness programme at Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS) Gund Hassibhat.
The programme was conducted on the directions of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, with the primary aim of sensitizing students and the broader community about the devastating impacts of drug abuse on individuals, families, and society as a whole.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from various officials, including representatives from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), and officers from the Departments of Education, Health, Excise, Social Welfare, among others. Faculty members and a large number of students from the host school were also actively engaged in the activities.
During the event, speakers from different sectors emphasized the critical need for a unified community effort to combat the menace of substance abuse. Highlighting the risks associated with drug addiction, they called on young people to redirect their energy towards positive and developmental pursuits such as education, sports, and community service.
The speakers also underlined that preventing drug abuse requires collaboration between government institutions, civil society, and the families themselves. Youth were encouraged to be vigilant, spread awareness, and act as ambassadors for a drug-free society.
In a symbolic and motivational moment, students took a pledge to actively work towards creating a drug-free environment within their communities. They committed themselves to spreading awareness, supporting their peers, and leading by example in promoting healthy, drug-free lifestyles.
The District Administration reiterated its commitment to continuing such IEC campaigns across the district to foster a resilient and empowered generation that rejects drugs and contributes positively to the development of Jammu and Kashmir.
Through ongoing community outreach and educational initiatives, Srinagar District Administration aims to build a strong societal movement against substance abuse, making “Drug-Free J&K” a reality.
