MAY 04: As part of a concerted effort to conserve water and rejuvenate traditional water resources, Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Nidhi Malik, conducted a field visit to inspect ongoing cleanliness and maintenance activities being carried out under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain 2025 initiative. The inspection tour covered multiple sites, including a detailed review of the pond located at Panchayat Agarballian.
The Deputy Commissioner assessed the current state of cleanliness and overall readiness of the administration in preparing key water structures for the upcoming monsoon season. Her visit is part of a larger district-wide campaign aimed at the restoration and maintenance of critical water recharge sources.
Launched on May 1, 2025, the week-long drive is being implemented across all 12 blocks of the Reasi district. The campaign focuses on the systematic rejuvenation of traditional water bodies, storage tanks, water harvesting structures, and other critical water-related assets. To ensure organized implementation, the district administration has prepared a comprehensive weekly activity roster, detailing a total of 1003 targeted actions.
The roster includes the cleaning and maintenance of 110 water harvesting tanks, 194 ponds, 508 natural spring bowlies, and 191 additional water structures. These efforts are being supervised at the block level by the respective Block Development Officers (BDOs), who are coordinating closely with local teams and community stakeholders.
During her visit, DC Nidhi Malik emphasized the significance of proactive water conservation and the need for timely upkeep of local water bodies. She pointed out that cleaned and restored water structures will play a crucial role in maximizing rainwater capture during the monsoon, thereby strengthening the district’s water security. Moreover, the campaign offers an opportunity to identify structures in need of repair or long-term attention, which can be integrated into the district’s broader development agenda.
The Deputy Commissioner also urged continued community involvement, stressing the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring the success of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan. She reiterated the administration’s commitment to preserving water resources and enhancing sustainable water management practices in Reasi through ground-level participation and structured planning.
