May 4: India is set to play a pivotal role in the World Bank Land Conference 2025, taking place from May 5 to 8 at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington, D.C., by presenting its landmark SVAMITVA Scheme and Gram Manchitra platform as models of digital land governance.
A high-level Indian delegation led by Shri Vivek Bharadwaj, Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), and senior officials from Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Survey of India will showcase how India is transforming rural property rights through drone-based mapping and geospatial data solutions.
Themed “Securing Land Tenure and Access for Climate Action”, the global conference will highlight India’s SVAMITVA achievements—providing legal property cards to over 24.4 million households across 1.6 lakh villages, and mapping over 100 million property parcels, unlocking an estimated land value of $1.162 trillion.
Shri Vivek Bharadwaj will represent India in the Plenary Session on Land Tenure and Governance Reform, sharing the impact of SVAMITVA on rural empowerment, women’s land rights, and dispute resolution—contributing to SDG Target 1.4.2.
Meanwhile, Joint Secretary Shri Alok Prem Nagar will lead a technical session demonstrating how Gram Manchitra, powered by high-resolution spatial data, enables village-level climate planning, solar siting, and disaster preparedness.
India’s participation underscores its leadership in digital land reforms, promoting tech-enabled, inclusive, and climate-aligned governance. This comes after strong international interest during a workshop in March 2025 where 22 countries explored collaboration on adopting India’s SVAMITVA model.
