MAY 16: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah convened a key meeting with tourism stakeholders today to address pressing concerns emerging in the wake of recent developments that have impacted the sector. The meeting brought together representatives from the hospitality industry, travel operators, local business owners, and officials from the tourism department.
During the interactive session, the Chief Minister acknowledged the challenges faced by the industry, including a dip in tourist inflow, concerns over safety perception, and economic losses experienced by those directly or indirectly dependent on tourism.
He reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to reviving and sustaining the tourism sector, which he described as a vital component of the region’s economy and cultural identity. “Tourism is the heartbeat of our economy, and we fully recognize its importance for employment and growth. The government will stand shoulder to shoulder with every stakeholder to ensure this industry not only recovers but thrives,” CM Omar Abdullah said.
The Chief Minister assured the attendees that their inputs and recommendations would be taken seriously and incorporated into future policy decisions and recovery plans. He directed tourism officials to work closely with industry representatives to create a roadmap for sustainable development, improved infrastructure, and better promotional campaigns that highlight Jammu and Kashmir as a safe and welcoming destination.
Stakeholders at the meeting expressed appreciation for the government’s outreach and provided detailed feedback on issues such as transport logistics, security arrangements, and promotional gaps in national and international markets. CM Abdullah noted their concerns and stressed the need for collaborative efforts to project a positive image of the region.
He also hinted at the possibility of special financial packages and promotional events to revive tourist interest and help the sector bounce back from its recent setbacks.
As the meeting concluded, there was a shared sense of optimism and unity among participants, with both the government and private players agreeing on the need for swift, coordinated action.
