MAY 24: A high-level delegation from the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), headed by its President Shri Javid Ahmed Tenga, met with the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, to deliberate on key issues concerning the trade and tourism sectors in the Kashmir Valley.
The meeting , focused on the urgent need to strengthen the region’s economic framework, with particular attention given to revitalizing tourism and supporting local businesses affected by various disruptions in recent years. The KCCI delegation presented a comprehensive overview of the challenges currently faced by traders, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders in the hospitality industry, underscoring the pressing need for policy interventions and support mechanisms.
During the discussion, Shri Javid Tenga emphasized the significance of tourism as a vital pillar of the region’s economy. He highlighted that consistent infrastructure development, better connectivity, and strategic promotional campaigns are essential to attract more tourists throughout the year. The KCCI also called for streamlined administrative procedures and ease-of-doing-business reforms to encourage private investment in the region.
The delegation further brought attention to the difficulties faced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which form the backbone of Kashmir’s economy. Issues related to delayed payments, access to credit, and bureaucratic hurdles were placed before the Lieutenant Governor, with requests for timely redressal and systemic reforms.
In response, LG Manoj Sinha acknowledged the concerns raised by the chamber and reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting inclusive economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir. He assured the delegation that their suggestions would be seriously considered, and constructive steps would be taken to address the challenges highlighted. The Lieutenant Governor also appreciated the KCCI’s role in representing the business community and reaffirmed the administration’s willingness to work in close coordination with industry bodies.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing optimism about enhanced collaboration between the government and business stakeholders to build a more resilient and dynamic economic environment in the Kashmir region.
