JUNE 03: In a major step toward decentralizing corporate governance education and fostering inclusive growth, the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, has officially acquired a five-acre site in New Shillong Township, Meghalaya, for its first-ever regional campus. This milestone development is funded through a ₹100.95 crore investment under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for the North East (PM-DevINE).
The new campus is envisioned as a regional hub for advanced training, research, and policy advisory across key areas including Corporate Governance, ESG, CSR, Insolvency and Bankruptcy, Competition Law, and Board Leadership. It reflects the government’s push to empower the North East as a center of innovation, leadership, and sustainable development.
The land transfer ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Shri Donald Phillips Wahlang, Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, and Ms. Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Shri Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, Director General and CEO of IICA, hailed the occasion as a historic expansion of the institute’s presence beyond Delhi—calling the Shillong campus a “symbol of empowerment and decentralization.”
The campus will be situated within Shillong’s Knowledge City cluster, already home to premier institutions like IIM Shillong, NIFT, and the National Law University Meghalaya. The location is expected to foster academic collaboration and cross-sectoral learning. A new airport proposed for Shillong is set to further enhance accessibility for faculty, students, and professionals from across the country.
In her remarks, Ms. Deepti Gaur Mukerjee emphasized the importance of cooperative federalism, praising Meghalaya’s proactive support for this national-level initiative. She highlighted the Centre’s broader goal of enabling the North East to serve as a growth engine for a “New India.”
Training programmes and advisory services are scheduled to begin within the current financial year. IICA plans to collaborate with local universities and academic bodies to deliver targeted capacity-building initiatives aligned with regional needs.
This initiative not only extends IICA’s reach into a vibrant, developing region but also affirms its long-term vision to nurture ethical entrepreneurs and future-ready leaders—firmly anchoring the North East in the national narrative of inclusive, knowledge-driven progress.
