JUNE 07: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, met with the officers instrumental in a landmark anti-Naxal operation in New Delhi today and lauded their dedication and tactical brilliance. Calling it a “historic success,” Shah reaffirmed the Modi government’s commitment to eliminating the decades-long Naxal threat from Indian soil.

Speaking about the recent breakthrough, the Home Minister said he looks forward to personally meeting the courageous jawans who executed the operation on ground and announced his upcoming visit to Chhattisgarh. “The Modi government is determined to root out Naxalism completely,” he asserted in a social media post.

The high-level meeting in New Delhi recognized the strategic operation that unfolded between May 18 and 21, 2025, in the dense and difficult terrains of Abujhmad in Chhattisgarh. The joint mission, led by state police and special forces including the DRG units from Narayanpur, Dantewada, Kondagaon, and Bijapur, culminated in the killing of 27 Naxals on May 21 in the Boter village forests.

The most significant among those eliminated was Basavaraju alias Gaganna, the General Secretary and Polit Bureau member of the CPI (Maoist), marking a decisive blow to the Naxal leadership.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally congratulated top officers including Chhattisgarh DGP Shri Arun Dev Gautam, ADG (Anti-Naxal Ops) Shri Vivekanand, IG (Bastar) Shri Sundarraj, and SPs of Narayanpur, Bijapur, and Bastar. The honoring ceremony was also attended by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy CM Shri Vijay Kumar Sharma, Home Secretary Shri Govind Mohan, and IB Director Shri Tapan Deka.

This successful mission underscores the Centre’s aggressive strategy, combining intelligence, coordination, and cutting-edge operations to dismantle insurgent networks. Officials noted the massive arms recovery and morale boost for the security forces.

With continued political will and operational excellence, the Modi government is inching closer to achieving its goal of a Naxal-free India — a vision that seems increasingly attainable after this historic victory in Chhattisgarh.
