June 13: In a crucial breakthrough, investigators have recovered the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) from the wreckage of the ill-fated Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner that tragically crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12, killing over 260 people. The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), which is closely assisting with the crash probe, confirmed that the DVR was retrieved from the remains of the aircraft’s debris near B.J. Medical College hostel, where the plane slammed into a residential building moments after takeoff.

While the DVR is not a substitute for the black box—which includes the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR)—its footage may offer valuable visual insights into the aircraft’s final moments. Forensic experts from the state-run FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) are now analyzing the DVR, hoping to reconstruct critical sequences before the aircraft went down.

Officials have stated that at least 241 passengers and crew onboard perished, along with 28 casualties on the ground, making this one of India’s most devastating aviation disasters in recent history. Miraculously, one British-Indian passenger, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, survived the crash and is currently recovering in a government hospital.

Search teams, including specialized aviation disaster experts, are still combing through the rubble for the black box, which is essential to understanding the technical and human factors that led to the crash. A senior official from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that partial components of the black box may have already been located.

The Modi government is reportedly considering grounding all Boeing 787 aircraft in the national fleet as a precautionary measure until more details emerge. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who personally visited the crash site, called the incident “heartbreaking” and assured all necessary support to affected families.

India’s Minister of Civil Aviation, along with Boeing representatives and international aviation authorities, is now working together to expedite the investigation, ensuring safety reforms follow.

As the country mourns this tragic loss, the recovery of the DVR is seen as a vital first step in uncovering the truth behind the crash. Investigators hope the findings will pave the way for stricter safety protocols and bring justice to the families of the victims.
