JUNE 13: In a move aimed at reinforcing citizen-centric governance and improving public service delivery, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary conducted a surprise inspection of the Labour Commissioner’s Office in Srinagar. The unannounced visit was part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure efficient functioning of key administrative offices and accountability in public services.
During his visit, the Deputy Chief Minister reviewed various aspects of the office’s functioning, paying close attention to the handling of public grievances, timely processing of applications, and the overall work culture prevalent in the department. He interacted with staff members, listened to their challenges, and encouraged them to stay committed to serving the public efficiently.
Emphasizing the importance of responsive governance, Surinder Choudhary firmly stated, “No delay, no excuse — public comes first.” He underscored that timely grievance redressal must be the topmost priority of every government office, particularly those dealing directly with the welfare and rights of citizens, such as the Labour Department.
The Deputy Chief Minister directed the officials to streamline the grievance redressal mechanisms, ensuring that no complaint remains pending beyond the stipulated timeframe. He also highlighted the need for regular monitoring of complaint resolution status, so that bottlenecks can be identified and addressed promptly.
In addition to grievance redressal, Surinder Choudhary laid special emphasis on the strict and effective implementation of labour laws. He stressed that the rights of workers and labourers must be fully protected, and any violations must be dealt with firmly, in accordance with the law. The Deputy Chief Minister also instructed the department to conduct regular inspections of workplaces to ensure compliance with safety standards, fair wages, and social security measures.
Further, the Deputy CM urged officials to maintain transparency and adopt a citizen-centric approach in all their dealings, minimizing bureaucratic hurdles and ensuring easy access to services for the common people. He emphasized that the government’s primary responsibility is to serve its citizens with integrity, efficiency, and empathy.
