JUNE 23: The Indian Navy’s frontline stealth frigate, INS Teg, successfully concluded its port call to Port Louis, Mauritius on June 22, as part of its operational deployment to the South West Indian Ocean Region (IOR). This visit reflected India’s strategic commitment to regional security and its enduring maritime partnership with Mauritius.
During the visit, INS Teg collaborated closely with the Mauritius National Coast Guard (NCG) for the coordinated surveillance of Mauritius’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The joint operations focused on tackling Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, highlighting the shared maritime priorities of both nations and their dedication to securing the global commons.
In a series of high-level diplomatic and military engagements, Captain Vikas Guleria, Commanding Officer of INS Teg, met with key dignitaries, including Mauritius’ Commissioner of Police Mr. Rampersad Sooroojebally, Secretary to Cabinet Mr. Suresh Seebaluck, and Indian High Commissioner Mr. Anurag Srivastava. These interactions fostered deeper strategic understanding and reinforced India-Mauritius cooperation.
In a strong push for capacity building, INS Teg facilitated training sessions for NCG personnel on firefighting, damage control, electrical systems, and small arms handling. The ship also provided technical assistance to the NCG’s CGS Valiant, helping restore a critical diesel generator. The support was received with appreciation and reinforced operational trust between the two forces.
As part of International Day of Yoga 2025 celebrations, a joint yoga session with over 150 participants was held aboard INS Teg on June 21. Key dignitaries and naval personnel participated in the event, symbolizing harmony, health, and cultural exchange.
The crew also engaged in friendly sports matches and a trek to Signal Mountain, enhancing interpersonal connections and cross-cultural camaraderie.
This port call by INS Teg is a testament to India’s proactive naval diplomacy and its commitment to promoting peace, stability, and collaboration across the Indian Ocean. The deployment not only strengthened operational interoperability but also fortified the long-standing India-Mauritius friendship, built on trust, shared democratic values, and a joint vision for a secure maritime future.
