JULY 04: The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), one of India’s largest integrated steel producers with an annual crude steel capacity of over 20 million tonnes, has inaugurated its first international representative office in Dubai. This strategic initiative marks a major step forward in the company’s global expansion efforts, reinforcing its commitment to becoming a globally competitive player in the steel industry.

The Dubai office was formally inaugurated on July 4, 2025, by the Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries, Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy. The event was also graced by the Consul General of India to Dubai, Shri Satish Kumar Sivan; SAIL Chairman Shri Amarendu Prakash; NMDC CMD Shri Amitava Mukherjee; Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Shri V.K. Tripathi; and senior officials from SAIL, NMDC, MECON, and the Ministry of Steel.

Positioned at a vital crossroads of global commerce, Dubai is widely recognized as a gateway to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The city’s robust infrastructure, investor-friendly environment, and strategic location make it an ideal base for Indian companies seeking to broaden their reach in emerging markets. Through this office, SAIL aims to strengthen its export operations, enhance commercial ties within the region, and contribute more substantially to India’s international trade.

The launch of the Dubai office aligns with the Government of India’s broader vision for the steel sector, which includes achieving a national steel production target of 300 million tonnes by 2030. As India positions itself as a global manufacturing hub, the internationalization of major public sector undertakings like SAIL is seen as essential to maintaining competitiveness and fostering innovation through global exposure.

With the opening of this new office, SAIL is not only looking to boost its commercial presence abroad but also to play a pivotal role in enhancing India-UAE bilateral relations in the industrial and infrastructure sectors. The move symbolizes India’s ambition to emerge as a global leader in steel production and export.
