Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha

AUG 07: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha inaugurated the National Tribal Festival 2025 in the serene valley of Gurez, celebrating the vibrant cultural legacy of the Dard-Shina tribal community. The event marks a significant step in honoring the heritage of one of the region’s most distinct indigenous groups, while promoting inclusive development in remote areas.

Addressing the gathering, LG Sinha said, “This festival is a celebration of the culture and tradition of the Dard-Shina tribal community.” He emphasized the administration’s commitment to preserving the unique identity, language, and way of life of tribal populations, particularly in geographically challenging areas like Gurez.

A key highlight of the occasion was the launch of a dedicated community radio station aimed at inspiring the younger generation to embrace and safeguard their rich heritage. The radio station is envisioned as a local platform to broadcast folk songs, oral traditions, cultural stories, and community knowledge—serving both as a learning resource and a bridge between generations.

“The radio station will play a vital role in preserving and promoting the values, traditions, and wisdom of the Dard-Shina community,” LG Sinha noted, urging youth to take pride in their roots and become cultural ambassadors for their people.

The festival featured a variety of traditional music, dance performances, craft displays, and tribal cuisine stalls. It brought together tribal elders, artists, students, and dignitaries to celebrate the richness of Dard-Shina heritage while also engaging in conversations around tribal welfare and sustainable development.

Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the UT administration, the festival reinforces the vision of cultural preservation through modern communication tools and community-driven initiatives.
