AUG 14: Director General of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Sonali Mishra, met with Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo today to review and discuss key aspects of railway security in Jammu & Kashmir, with an emphasis on safeguarding assets and ensuring the safety of passengers.
The meeting featured detailed deliberations on the current security landscape in the Union Territory, including recent enhancements in surveillance, infrastructure, and operational protocols. The discussions came in the backdrop of Kashmir’s growing railway integration with India’s national rail network — a development seen as a milestone for the region’s connectivity and economic growth.
Particular attention was given to the operational readiness and security arrangements for freight trains, which are scheduled to begin regular services along the newly connected railway line. Officials underlined that this new link is expected to significantly boost trade, tourism, and commerce in Jammu & Kashmir, opening fresh opportunities for both local businesses and the wider economy.
The Chief Secretary and the DG RPF also examined coordination mechanisms between railway authorities, security agencies, and local administration to ensure seamless operations while maintaining high safety standards. The conversation highlighted the dual objective of facilitating efficient transport and protecting vital railway infrastructure from any potential threats.
This meeting, notable as the first official interaction between Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and DG Sonali Mishra, carried symbolic importance in strengthening institutional cooperation. Both leaders expressed confidence that the measures discussed will fortify railway security in the Union Territory and enhance public confidence in rail travel.
The session concluded with an understanding to continue close collaboration, monitor evolving security needs, and implement proactive measures in line with the strategic importance of Jammu & Kashmir’s expanding railway network.
