SEP 05: Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services & Sports (YSS), Yasha Mudgal today chaired a high-level review meeting of the YSS Directorate to assess the department’s performance and chart a forward-looking strategy to enhance youth participation and sporting excellence across Jammu & Kashmir.
Emphasizing the need for structured, continuous engagement, Mudgal directed the department to organize year-round sports activities in all schools, ensuring that every student is actively involved throughout the academic session. She called for a data-driven approach to monitor student participation and conduct gap analysis to identify areas needing focused interventions.
In a move to incentivize excellence, the Commissioner Secretary proposed enhanced scholarships for athletes and medal winners, while also recommending the construction of mini-stadia on school lands to address infrastructure bottlenecks. Recognizing the potential of local talent, she stressed the importance of talent hunts at the grassroots level to identify and nurture budding sportspersons.
Mudgal further proposed the establishment of a Youth Culture Centre to promote extracurricular and cultural activities alongside sports, aiming to ensure holistic development of youth in the Union Territory. On administrative matters, she stressed the importance of timely human resource actions, including Departmental Promotion Committees (DPCs) and the swift disposal of service-related cases, to boost departmental efficiency.
In a significant tourism-sports convergence initiative, Yasha Mudgal asked the department to explore Bhaderwah as a potential winter sports destination, noting that such efforts could promote both regional tourism and sports culture in the area.
She reiterated that the department must not only focus on competitive sports but also create inclusive platforms for youth participation, cultural expression, and personality development across J&K.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on adopting a more dynamic, accountable, and future-ready framework to promote youth empowerment through sports and cultural activities.
