SEP 05: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today conducted an on-ground assessment of the flood-hit areas in Srinagar and Budgam, visiting key affected zones including the Jhelum embankment breach at Shalina. Braving the difficult conditions, the Chief Minister also travelled by boat into submerged interiors to personally gauge the extent of damage and interact with distressed residents.
During his visit, Omar Abdullah expressed deep concern over the destruction caused by the floods and assured the people that the government stands firmly with them during this crisis. He directed the local administration to ensure smooth evacuation from flood-prone areas and establish temporary shelters equipped with clean drinking water, food supplies, and medical aid.
Recognizing the significant impact on livelihoods, the Chief Minister also ordered the deployment of rescue boats for stranded cattle, underlining the importance of animal welfare in relief efforts.
While thanking the Almighty for the absence of human casualties, Omar Abdullah acknowledged the extensive damage to homes and infrastructure. He assured the public that he would urge the Union Home Minister to dispatch a Central team to assess the losses in Kashmir, similar to the team already sent to flood-affected areas in Jammu.
He further appealed to citizens to cooperate with rescue and relief teams and to follow official advisories to ensure their safety. Emphasizing transparency and urgency, he reiterated the government’s commitment to providing timely relief and rehabilitation to all those affected.
The visit reinforced the administration’s focus on direct engagement with affected populations and timely delivery of essential support, as the state battles yet another bout of nature’s fury.
