In a major relief initiative for families affected by recent floods, the District Administration Jammu under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Minhas has sanctioned ₹1.07 crore as financial assistance to 231 families whose houses and livelihoods suffered damages during the calamity.
The decision reflects the administration’s commitment to provide timely support to people grappling with post-flood challenges. The sanctioned relief package has been approved under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) norms and will directly benefit the affected families across various blocks and urban areas of Jammu district.
Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Minhas emphasized that extending swift compensation to the affected households is crucial in restoring normalcy and ensuring that families can begin rebuilding their lives without delay. He reiterated that the administration is determined to stand by every citizen in this hour of distress and will continue to monitor rehabilitation measures closely.
The flood relief will be disbursed through direct bank transfers to ensure transparency and eliminate any procedural delays. Each beneficiary family has been identified after thorough verification by revenue teams and local committees, ensuring that the compensation reaches the rightful claimants.
In addition to financial aid, the DC has directed all line departments to expedite the restoration of basic services including water supply, electricity, healthcare facilities, and road connectivity in flood-affected areas. Special focus has been laid on repairing rural infrastructure, restoring educational institutions, and conducting safety audits of public buildings.
The District Administration has also kept buffer stocks of essential commodities, medicines, and drinking water ready to cater to any emergency needs that may arise as the region recovers from the recent spell of heavy rains. Further, the health department has been asked to maintain regular surveillance to prevent water-borne diseases in vulnerable localities.
Residents expressed gratitude to the administration for releasing the compensation swiftly, acknowledging that the relief will help them overcome immediate hardships.
