SEP 24:In a significant gesture of solidarity and corporate social responsibility, the Union Bank of India donated ₹1 crore to support flood relief efforts in Jammu and Kashmir. The cheque was formally handed over to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar. This donation comes at a crucial time, aiming to support ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations in the flood-affected regions of the state.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed sincere appreciation for the generous contribution, acknowledging the crucial role such corporate partnerships play in the state’s recovery process. He emphasized that donations like this would help expedite relief measures and facilitate the rehabilitation of families and infrastructure impacted by the devastating floods.

While receiving the donation, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of collective efforts between the government, private sector, and civil society in responding to natural disasters. He further assured that the funds will be used effectively to reach those in urgent need and support the rebuilding process in affected areas.

In a parallel development, two Members of the Legislative Assembly — Sajjad Shaheen from Banihal and Javid Iqbal from Budhal — called on the Chief Minister to discuss key developmental issues concerning their respective constituencies. The MLAs raised concerns over infrastructure, road connectivity, education, and healthcare, urging the government to prioritize development in under-served regions.

Chief Minister Abdullah gave a patient hearing to their concerns and assured that the government is committed to ensuring balanced and inclusive development across all districts. He stated that the demands brought forward would be carefully examined and necessary steps taken to address them. He reiterated his government’s focus on equitable growth, promising initiatives that bridge regional disparities and improve the quality of life for all citizens.

Together, these developments reflect a broader commitment towards both immediate disaster response and long-term regional development in Jammu and Kashmir.
