OCT 09:Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Anshul Garg, reviewed the progress of the Comprehensive Sewerage Scheme for Greater Srinagar, a key infrastructure project aimed at improving the city’s sanitation and urban development standards. The review meeting highlighted significant progress, with 99% of the Trunk Sewer Line and 98% of the 60 Million Litres per Day (MLD) Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) now completed. Officials informed that trial runs are scheduled to commence on October 16, 2025, marking a major step toward full operationalization of the project.

The sewerage scheme, being implemented under the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP) and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), is designed to ensure scientific waste management and prevent untreated sewage from entering the Jhelum River. The project covers a substantial part of Greater Srinagar, providing modern sanitation infrastructure to thousands of households and contributing to a cleaner urban ecosystem.

Dr. Garg directed concerned departments to finalize all pending works, including testing, inspection, and integration of ancillary systems before the trial run. He emphasized the importance of quality assurance, proper network connectivity, and timely commissioning to achieve sustainable results.

He further instructed officers to establish a monitoring mechanism to ensure smooth functioning post-commissioning and to address any technical issues promptly during the trial phase. The Divisional Commissioner also stressed on maintaining coordination among departments like the Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED), Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), and Power Development Department (PDD) for seamless execution.

The near-completion of the project is expected to significantly enhance the city’s environmental health, hygiene standards, and overall livability, aligning with the government’s vision of a cleaner, greener, and smarter Srinagar.
