OCT 11: Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, today inspected the newly constructed Yatri Suvidha Kendra at New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS). Designed to accommodate approximately 7,000 passengers, the facility aims to enhance pre-boarding comfort, streamline passenger flow, and improve the overall travel experience, especially during the peak festival season.

Shri Vaishnaw stated, “The newly developed state-of-the-art Yatri Suvidha Kendra will provide comfort to passengers during the festival surge. Facilities like this shall be developed at other stations across the country.”

The facility is divided into three strategic zones: Pre-Ticketing (1,218 sqm), Ticketing (2,860 sqm), and Post-Ticketing (1,150 sqm) to reduce congestion and ensure smooth movement. Northern Railway has equipped the Kendra with modern amenities, including 22 ticket counters, 25 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), seating for 200 passengers, and 18 High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) fans for efficient cooling.

Sanitation facilities include a 652 sqm dedicated toilet block and an RO-based drinking water system. Passenger information is strengthened through a robust announcement system, three LED train information displays, and security is ensured with 18 CCTV cameras, 5 luggage scanners, and 5 door-frame metal detectors (DFMDs).

The construction involved complex coordination, including demolition and relocation of ATMs, police cabins, hoarding boards, and sensitive utilities such as water lines, drainage systems, and OFC cables, all executed without disrupting station operations.

Additionally, the extension of Foot Over Bridge 1 (FOB 1) now allows passengers to directly exit towards the Metro Station, improving multimodal connectivity and reducing platform congestion.

The inspection was attended by Shri Satish Kumar, Chairman & CEO Railway Board, Shri Ashok Kumar Verma, GM Northern Railway, and senior officials, highlighting the Railway Ministry’s commitment to modern, world-class passenger infrastructure.
