OCT 12: Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, participated in the ‘Recognition Ceremony of Forest Rangers’ held on the sidelines of the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi on October 11, 2025. The event celebrated the courage and dedication of forest personnel who tirelessly protect forests and wildlife across the globe.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shri Singh said it was an honour to recognize the “brave men and women who dedicate their lives to conserving the planet’s biodiversity.” He released the report titled ‘Guardians of the Wild’, acknowledging the crucial role of forest rangers and support staff in implementing conservation policies on the ground.
The Minister highlighted the diverse challenges faced by forest staff—ranging from wildlife monitoring and fire control to combating poachers and timber smugglers—often at great personal risk. He paid tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, calling them the true protectors of nature.
Shri Singh also lauded IUCN and the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) for honouring forest personnel globally. He emphasized the need to document and preserve the traditional wisdom and indigenous knowledge of frontline staff, known in India as Vanrakshaks and Vanrakshikas.
Reaffirming the Government of India’s commitment, he highlighted capacity-building initiatives and the use of drones, satellite tracking, and radio-collaring of wildlife to enhance forest protection. He concluded by assuring continuous support to India’s forest protectors, who remain the backbone of the nation’s conservation efforts.
