OCT 27:The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released its Independent Drive Test (IDT) findings for the Punjab Licensed Service Area (LSA), focusing on Ludhiana City to assess real-world mobile network performance during September 2025. Conducted under the supervision of TRAI’s Regional Office, Delhi, the tests covered over 280 km of city routes, 13 hotspot locations, and walk tests across major pedestrian zones.
The drive evaluated all major service providers—Airtel, BSNL, Reliance Jio (RJIL), and Vodafone Idea (VIL)—across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks, measuring both voice and data quality parameters.
In voice services, Airtel and RJIL recorded the highest Call Setup Success Rates (CSSR) of 99.70% and 99.85%, respectively, while VIL stood at 98.93% and BSNL at 95.03%. The Drop Call Rate (DCR) was negligible for Airtel and VIL at 0.00%, while RJIL recorded 0.30% and BSNL 4.60%. RJIL also showed the lowest call setup time of 0.69 seconds, followed by Airtel at 1.40 seconds.
In data performance, RJIL led with an average download speed of 322.63 Mbps, followed by Airtel’s 268.50 Mbps, while VIL recorded 31.12 Mbps and BSNL 9.30 Mbps. Upload speeds followed a similar trend, with RJIL achieving 36.31 Mbps and Airtel 34.02 Mbps.
The test covered dense neighbourhoods like Civil Lines, Model Town, Rajguru Nagar, Haibowal Kalan, Dhandari Kalan, and key hotspots including Ludhiana Railway Station, Bus Stand, DMC Hospital, Feroz Gandhi Market, and Punjab Agricultural University.
TRAI emphasized that the tests reflect real-world service experience and will guide improvements in network quality. Detailed findings are available on the official website www.trai.gov.in.
