OCT 27:Probationers of the Indian Police Service (IPS) 77 RR, 2024 batch, called on President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

Addressing the young officers, the President said that as India emerges as one of the fastest-growing major economies, maintaining law and order is crucial to attract both public and private investments. “Effective policing is as vital as economic incentives for promoting growth,” she noted, adding that a future-ready police force led by young, capable officers will play a key role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat.

The President reminded the probationers that with authority comes accountability, urging them to uphold ethical conduct, fairness, and transparency in their service. “Your actions will always be under public scrutiny. Choose what is ethical, not what is merely expedient,” she said. She emphasized that moral authority and personal integrity earn true respect and trust.

Highlighting the emotional challenges of policing, President Murmu cautioned that frequent exposure to crime can desensitize officers. She urged them to retain their compassionate core while performing their duties effectively.

The President also stressed the growing influence of technology and artificial intelligence in law enforcement. “Today, terms like ‘digital arrest’ have real meaning. Officers must stay several steps ahead of those misusing technology,” she advised.

The session concluded with the President expressing confidence that the young IPS officers will uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and public service.
