NOV 01: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reaffirmed India’s commitment to maintaining an open, inclusive, and rules-based Indo-Pacific, emphasizing that the nation’s stance on freedom of navigation, overflight, and adherence to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) is aimed at safeguarding collective regional interests, not directed against any particular country.
Addressing the 12th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus) in Kuala Lumpur, the Raksha Mantri said India’s engagement with ASEAN is principle-driven and long-term, grounded in a shared belief that the Indo-Pacific should remain free from coercion.
Highlighting Malaysia’s theme of “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” he noted that inclusivity ensures every nation, regardless of size, contributes to regional stability, while sustainability focuses on creating resilient, cooperative, and long-term security frameworks.
He added that India’s security approach integrates defence cooperation with economic growth, technology sharing, and human resource development, aligning with ASEAN’s vision for comprehensive regional progress.
Describing ADMM-Plus as a cornerstone of India’s ‘Act East Policy’, he emphasized India’s readiness to deepen cooperation through dialogue, partnership, and practical collaboration under the guiding vision of MAHASAGAR – Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth across Regions.
Rajnath Singh also highlighted India’s active role in ADMM-Plus Expert Working Groups, including co-chairing on Humanitarian Mine Action, Military Medicine, HADR, and now Counter-Terrorism with Malaysia (2024–27).
He reiterated that inclusive cooperation strengthens sovereignty and regional peace, underscoring India’s commitment to contributing constructively to a secure and stable Indo-Pacific.
